Amazon Canada Lists Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 2018 For PC
The listing, No further details are provided whatsoever, aside from the item model number which is, tantalizingly enough, “E3TomClancy’sSplinterCell2018_PC”.
Ubisoft has said absolutely nothing about a new Splinter Cell game so it seems very curious indeed that this would randomly be added to Amazon, and even stranger that it would be tagged with E3. Would Amazon even be in the loop this far ahead of a June E3 announcement? I’m not entirely sure, so I couldn’t say one way or the other, although, with the recent The Division 2 announcement well ahead of its actual E3 2018 reveal, it certainly seems possible.
In terms of what we’ve heard about Splinter Cell since Splinter Cell Blacklist launched back in 2013, it doesn’t amount to a great deal. All the way back in 2016 there were (spurious) rumours that a new Splinter Cell was in development and that Michael Ironside would be back to voice Sam Fisher after he was absent for SC: Blacklist. It’s hard to gauge just how much truth there was to that particularly rumour; it came from a NeoGAF member who claimed he’d seen Ironside doing the motion capture work for it in a studio.
On top of this, we had Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, in an interview after E3 last year, saying:
“What we can say is we are receiving lots of sketches and proposals around [Splinter Cell]. We’re going to pick one up and I think you’ll be able to see something, but you will have to wait for that.”
We’ll have to wait and see on this one then, but there’s a whole lot of smoke without any fire right about now.
Do you think we could see a new Splinter Cell revealed this year? Would it be a traditional Splinter Cell game, or could Ubisoft focus on a Siege-like live component for its Spies v Mercs multiplayer?
