Classic Final Fantasy Games Coming to Xbox Game Pass In 2020

The reveal that several classic Final Fantasy titles would be coming to Xbox Game Pass occurred during this week’s X019 event from Xbox. The Final Fantasy games weren’t the only announced upcoming addition to the service, however. A whole slew of new games are set to be added, and the nine Final Fantasy games coming to the service are just the tip of the iceberg.

It’s been quite a day for Game Pass owners already, with news of games like Rage 2 and Remnant: From the Ashes coming to the service, but Square Enix dropped the biggest bombshell of the day with news that a slew of Final Fantasy games will be arriving in 2020.

Here’s the list of games included:

  • FINAL FANTASY VII
  • FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered
  • FINAL FANTASY IX
  • FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster
  • FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE
  • FINAL FANTASY XIII
  • FINAL FANTASY XIII-2
  • LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII
  • FINAL FANTASY XV

As well as Square Enix’s premiere franchise, Kingdom Hearts will see its older entries land on Microsoft’s console next year. Both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are finally making the jump, allowing Xbox players to complete the story on a single device.

The Xbox One has performed terribly in Japan in comparison to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Microsoft has had a hard time winning over the Japanese audience with the Xbox One, but it seems that the company isn’t giving up just yet. Bringing Square Enix further into the fold is a smart move and having access to so many Final Fantasy titles under one subscription cost is a bargain on its own.

When, exactly, the Final Fantasy titles mentioned above will actually be joining the service in 2020 is anyone’s guess at this point, but the fact remains that they are locked in for inclusion. Plus, it’s not like you need nine different Final Fantasy games to play through right this moment, and it might even make the most sense to release them in chunks rather than all at once.
