Cyberpunk 2077 April 16th 2020 Release Date Confirmed
Highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 In addition to dropping a fantastic-looking new cinematic trailer for the game, CD Projekt Red brought Keanu Reeves on stage to reveal the title’s release date April 16, 2020. Though some were hoping the game would be out in 2019, it seems it needs just a bit more time in the oven before it’s ready for a full launch.
Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference kicked off today, and midway through their presentation, fans of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 were given good reason to get excited.
The trailer (below) takes place after the events shown off in last year’s gameplay reveal, with V a man this time returning to his big shot employer to get his reward. Through a flashback, we find out his buddy was killed during the job, and V almost joins him.
This impressive battle begins with V tearing off one foe’s limbs, then having his own limbs disabled by another. He eventually submits to an apparent death, only to black out and wake up in a Los Angeles valley where a long-haired, sunglasses-wearing man picks you up and says, “Wake the fuck up, samurai. We have a city to burn.” This character, if you’re wondering, is Reeves, down to his digital look and voice acting.
Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the works since at least 2013, but we got our first real look at it last year. The project is an open-world shooter with heavy character customization options, set in a world where implants can drastically change people’s appearance and abilities. It’s based on the tabletop title Cyberpunk 2020 and made by CD Projekt Red, known for the Witcher games series.
Set in the future in the American metropolis of Night City, the title will see you take on the role of a mercenary at a time when transhumanism is the order of the day. Your actions and choices will deeply influence the outcomes you encounter in the game. It’s nice to know that somewhere along the way, you’ll get to meet with Reeves character – and hopefully team up for some futuristic ass-kicking.
As an incentive to buy on GOG, CD Projekt Red is offering buyers “print quality” Cyberpunk 2077 posters, 30 percent off on any CD Projekt Red Merch Store offers, an “exclusive digital booklet” (more details on that “coming soon”), and an additional set of wallpapers and avatars.
Moving on from the standard stuff, let’s talk Collector’s Edition. The full kit will include everything the Standard edition has, in addition to the following:
- A Collector’s Edition box
- A 10-inch (25cm) statue of V, the game’s protagonist
- A hard-backed art book
