CD Projekt Red was due to showcase Cyberpunk 2077 on June 11th by hosting an online event called “Night City Wire”. Now, this event has been delayed, with the Polish developer citing the US’ Black Lives Matter protests as the primary reason for the event’s postponement. In their Tweet (below) regarding this issue, CD Projekt Red stated that:

We decided to move Night City Wire to Jun 25th. We still look forward to sharing new information about CP’77, but more important discussions are happening right now and we want them to be heard. We wholeheartedly stand against racism, intolerance and violence. Black Lives Matter.

The USA’s ongoing Black Live Matter protests that are taking place across the US. These protests were sparked after the death of George Floyd, who was needlessly killed by a police officer in Minneapolis. This event was recorded by passers-by, who were concerned about what they had witnessed. This event was one of many, and now the voices of American minorities are demanding to be heard.

The world is going through a really rough time right now with the COVID-19 outbreak, cyclones and locust swarms and such. It seems like 2020 is essentially cancelled, for all intents and purposes.

Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire stream was meant to take place on 11 June 2020 and showcase brand-new gameplay for the upcoming game. We have not seen anything new since late 2019. I am sure CD Projekt Red has something to show us. We will just have to wait a bit longer to see it.

The delay follows Sony, EA and many others who also postponed planned streams and announcements. The biggest one being the PS5 Future of Gaming livestream which was meant to take place tomorrow. Sony announced the event will no longer go live. However, the company did not reveal a replacement date. Previous leaks claim the PS5 stream will now take place on 12 June 2020 but this is just a rumour for now.

The publisher has joined Sony in pushing back its event so that more important voices can be heard during these difficult times. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 4 on 17th September 2020.
