Destiny 2 Season Of Dawn Release Date Revealed

With the Season of the Undying coming to an end, Bungie has given us the first look at its next season pass, Season of the Dawn. In the latest trailer, we see Osiris — the central figure of the Curse of Osiris expansion — explaining how we’ve messed everything up again. By killing the Undying Mind, we have really and truly borked the timeline, and the Red Legion of Cabal is trying to change the past, so they win the Red War.

The new season comes with an original artifact for you to upgrade, a new six-player combat mode, new armor and weapons, and of course, a new chunk of story to play through. The story looks to center around the red army, though there is also a subplot of free a “Legendary” titan. It makes sense, too, as the Ward of Dawn is one of the Titan’s super abilities. There is a lot of XIV imagery in the trailer, so perhaps the Titan is Saint XIV? This Titan is supposed to be “The greatest Titan of them all,” but we will see. My Titan is a badass, so this fellow will have his work cut out.

As always, some content in Season of Dawn will require the Season Pass, but with it you’ll get not only the aforementioned story content, but a new six-player match made experience, dubbed Master The Sundial Prototype, where you will claim an arsenal of new weapons and armor while resurrecting one of the City’s greatest symbols of hope.

The new artifact is called the Lantern of Osiris and is likely to work the same way as the Gate Lord’s Eye. It will give you bonuses to your weapons and armor, and provide you with something fun to grind for. I think it’s unlikely that they will change the barrier mods, though, as Eriana’s vow has it built-in. I think barrier mods are here to stay.

Not much has been said about the new six-player game mode. We know it is called The Sundial, and it looks like a PvE event. In the trailer, you can see you and your fire-team fighting the Cabal, so it’s likely to be a similar horde mode to the Season of the Undying. Hopefully, they will have listened to the fans and made the final boss at the end of the season something worth fighting.

long with the new story content, Season of Dawn pass holders will also be able to jump into a new six-player activity called The Sundial that will have them protecting Osiris’ great creation from a Cabal onslaught—a horde mode of some sort, from the sounds of it. There are also new exotic quests, the return of the Rusted Lands, a new seasonal artifact called the Lantern of Osiris, and various new exotic items to earn. Some of the new stuff is free for everyone, and other bits are restricted to owners of the $10 season pass. Here’s how it breaks down:

Free For All Players:

  • Free Seasonal Rank Rewards
  • Seasonal Artifact: The Lantern of Osiris
  • Help Osiris fix the timeline by restoring Obelisks on four destinations

The Season of Dawn begins on December 10. More information, including the full reward tracks for both free and premium players (although they’re not labelled, so you’ll have to take a guess at some of them) is up at bungie.net. The full reveal livestream will take place tomorrow, December 4, at 10 am PT/1 pm ET on Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer

This will be an exciting time for Bungie, as Season of the Undying was propped up by the release of Shadowkeep, and all the related content, but Season of Dawn will need to stand on its own two feet and fend for itself against crowds of content-hungry gamers. Now that Destiny 2 has moved into the realm of free-to-play, Season of Dawn might be a make or break moment for the fan-favorite game.

For concrete answers on how exactly they’ll do that, fans will need to wait until the reveal stream (links above) on Dec. 4, or Season of Dawn Dec. 10 release date.
