Doctor Who Edge Of Time VR Game Coming This September
Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker is lending her voice to the upcoming virtual reality game Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time, developer Maze Theory and BBC Studios announced on Monday. Sure, there have been a few good ones, but for the most the iconic BBC sci-fi series has suffered from a string of mediocre releases that rob Whovians everywhere of the full blooded, immersive experience they so desperately crave. For a show that has been running for well over a half century now.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will launch in September 2019 for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC VIVE and the upcoming VIVE Cosmos, and is described as a “cinematic” adventure, featuring the voice of The Doctor herself – Jodie Whittaker.
From the official press release:
Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time will transport fans into a globally-beloved world of aliens, mystery and wonder, letting them embark on a brand-new and fully-interactive adventure, inspired by the show’s 55-year history and starring the Doctor’s current incarnation, played by Jodie Whittaker.
Players will go forth with The Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver and solve puzzles across a number of planets and timezones. They’ll have to deal with a number of iconic monsters from the show, including Daleks and Weeping Angels, the latter of which could make for some properly terrifying experiences in VR. We’ve also been promised a few “never before seen monsters” will be in the mix.
“VR is the perfect home for a truly immersive Doctor Who adventure. Fans and newcomers alike will be able to experience the universe of Doctor Who like never before, working with the Doctor and facing enemies new and old. Gaming is a key part of the future of Doctor Who and allows us to tell new and exciting stories beyond the TV screen,” said Head of Digital Entertainment & Games for BBC Studios Bradley Crooks. Thankfully, there’s not too long to wait before you can play the game for yourself.
Doctor Who: The Edge of Time will launch this September, will be available for the PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive and Vive Cosmos.
