Ghostbusters Game Is Being Remastered Releasing This Year
Back in 2009, the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters was celebrated in a big way with the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. At the time, the video game was a big deal because Atari was able to round up all of the original Ghostbusters cast members to reprise their roles. Basically, it was the only way we were getting a Ghostbusters 3.
Ultimately, the game wasn’t exactly a home run since the story was somewhat mediocre and the game’s ending didn’t really deliver anything all that thrilling. But for Ghostbusters fans, with all the wisecracking from almost all the movie’s original cast and the ability to become one of the Ghostbusters in a video game for the then-current generation of video games was still pretty cool. But now fans may have an opportunity to give it another chance since it would appear that a remastered re-release of the game is coming soon.
The reveal trailer (below) showcases the improvements made to the last generation title, which effectively acted as a sequel to the original Ghostbusters films, and featured the original cast to boot!
PlayStation Europe shared the reveal trailer for the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered. There are not many details currently known about the game except that it is being developed by Saber Interactive and Mad Dog Games. Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is coming to PS4 in 2019.
Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, who wrote the original movies, were involved in the creation of the game’s script, and this helped give it authenticity.
“The production values nail the Ghostbusters vibe. The sound effects in particular are fantastic, from eerie whispers in hotel hallways and groans of bosses to the whooshes and slurps of pulling a ghost into a trap. And while the game isn’t amazing from a technical perspective, a vibrant color palette and detailed ghost designs make the story come alive.”
A new Ghostbusters film is also in production and expected to release in 2020. It is set in the world of the of the original Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989). Jason Reitman (Up In The Air, Juno), the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, is writing and directing the movie.
No set release date beyond a vague coming 2019 at the end of the trailer.
