Jumanji The Video Game Announced For PC And Consoles
From seemingly nowhere, Jumanji The Video Game has been announced. Developed by Outright Games and Funsolve, the upcoming title is due to be released on November 15, and it will be available to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. A teaser trailer (Below) for Jumanji The Video Game dropped online on Tuesday, June 4, but offered little information on what the game will be about. Starting with a classic Jumanji inspired riddle, the footage shows the rebooted franchise’s four main characters dropping into a jungle setting expertly or, wll, not so expertly.
While the above teaser trailer doesn’t offer much besides a look at the cast of Welcome to the Jungle in Unreal Engine 4, Richard Tawn, the founder and director of Funsolve, is excited for more features and reveals in the near future. “This is a dream come true for our studio,” Tawn said in a press release, “Adapting the exotic, dangerous and hilarious world of Jumanji into a video game has pushed us to create something truly special.”
An all-star cast headlined by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson helped breathe new life into the Jumanji franchise with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017, an indirect sequel to the classic film starring the late Robin Williams. This soft reboot of the franchise added the twist that the mystical Jumanji board game transforms into a video game that sucks people into its game world and transforms them into in-game avatars. After a successful run at the box office, Sony quickly announced it would continue the story with Jumanji 3, which brings back the original cast with some notable additions. Jumanji 3 recently finished filming ahead of its December release.
There’s no indication that any of the above four actors will voice their own characters either, though we suspect that they won’t. If anything, this tie-in game looks like it’ll merely offer up a new story ahead of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s sequel release date. Until there’s more information about what exactly it’ll be about, however, we can only speculate on how this game will tie into the previous movie and its follow-up.
Jumanji The Video Game will be powered by the Unreal engine and appears to be the biggest game that Outright Games will have developed. The developer has a knack for making games from other entertainment properties, such as Adventure Time, so Jumanji The Video Game looks to be in safe hands.
Fans of the franchise won’t have to wait long to be transported to the world of Jumanji, as long as they’re open to a new medium. Bandai Namco Europe, along with publisher Outright Games and developer Funsolve, announced that Jumani: The Video Game will release on November 15 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Up to four players can connect via online or split-screen play and assume the role of avatars like Dr. Smoulder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar or Professor Shelly Oberon to uncover the Jewels of Jumanji and find their way home.
It’ll be interesting to see what different abilities each character will have, and how they can interact with each other and overcome all of the obstacles that Jumanji: The Video Game has to offer.
As such, with the game planned for a November 15th release, suddenly all becomes a little more clear.
