The Mafia series, one of the most underrated modern gaming franchises, is getting a new release as a complete trilogy, 2K games and Hangar 13 revealed on Wednesday. Looks like that cryptic tweet from the official Mafia games’ Twitter page wasn’t just a coincidence after all, as 2K plans to unveil the full reveal next week. The teaser trailer below shows off some remastered footage from “three distinct eras,” so it looks like we won’t just be getting 1 or 2 games remastered, but the entire trilogy in one complete package.

The original Mafia was released in 2002 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC and followed the rise and fall of Tommy Angelo. The game featured a pretty impressive recreation of a 1930s city, along with dozens of era-appropriate cars, but was mostly overshadowed by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, which came out a couple of months later.

Mafia 2 takes place a few years later, shortly after World War II, with players taking on the role of Vito Scaletta. Scaletta returns home after the war and falls in with local mobs and quickly rises to power in his home city of Empire Bay — which is a combination of Chicago and New York City. Mafia 2 was originally released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 — though the PC version didn’t run particularly well when it launched. Along with its fantastic crime story, Mafia 2 had one of the most impressive cover and shooting systems of any open-world game that generation.

The most recent game in the series, Mafia 3 came out back in 2016 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. Mafia 3 takes a very different path from the first two games by centering on Lincoln Clay. Clay is a resident of the city of New Bordeaux, based on New Orleans, and wants to build his own criminal organization to steal the city away from the Italian mob that currently runs it. The game was developed by Hangar 13, the same studio behind this new trilogy re-release.

This brief teaser trailer doesn’t say anything about when the Mafia: Trilogy will be released, but it does say that more news and a bigger announcement are on the way on May 19 at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET.

We’ll find all that out on Tuesday 19th May at 9am PT / 12pm ET / 5pm BST on the franchise’s official website.
