Milla Jovovich Starring In Live Action Monster Hunter Movie
Resident Evil heroine Milla Jovovich has been announced as the leading star in a new live action Monster Hunter movie. Monster Hunter will be directed and written by Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of the Resident Evil movie series, Alien vs. Predator, Event Horizon, and, ahem, 1995’s Mortal Kombat movie.
According to Variety, Anderson recently delivered the film’s latest draft, and the Monster Hunter movie will start shooting in South Africa this September. Special effects will be handled by Mr. X, a studio that worked on the Resident Evil franchise.
Like the Resident Evil movies, which Anderson directed and Jovovich starred in, the hope is to turn the Monster Hunter flick into a movie franchise.
As for the plot, all the back in 2012, Anderson said it would be centred on a single hunter character in a parallel world filled with deadly monsters. “The central characters are very relatable American characters,” said Anderson in 2016. “You take a person from the ordinary world who thinks they’re in a dead-end job, they have no future, they feel like their life’s a failure, it’s going nowhere, like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix. It’s about a normal American who gets dragged into this parallel world, this Monster Hunter world. Then eventually the parallel world ends up coming to our world. So you have the creatures from the Monster Hunter world invading our world.”
However, many would undoubtedly argue that the Resident Evil films were very much broke. Although the franchise was largely a financial success and the first movie is often considered one of the better examples of a video game-to-movie adaptation, the Resident Evil franchise attracted mostly negative reviews throughout its six-film run. Monster Hunter fans perhaps won’t be too delighted to learn that more or less the exact same team will be taking a shot at their beloved world of Wyverns and weapon crafting in the near future.
