Palit Launches GTX 1650 Fanless Graphics Card Fully Passive
GeForce GTX 1650 from Nvidia is the most powerful graphics card with power consumption of up to 75 watts without the need for additional power. Fans of (relatively) energy-efficient hardware will now also be offered an option to purchase this graphics card in a completely noiseless form. Palit has released the GeForce GTX 1650 KalmX, which is known in the past with completely passive or “fanless” cooling.
Given that it’s a fanless card with limited cooling, the GPU comes at stock GPU and memory speeds, meaning 1485MHz base and 1665MHz boost for the core, while the 4GB of GDDR5 memory comes clocked at 8Gbps. Palit has been producing KalmX cards for a long time, the last fanless version of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Pascal generation. However, the GeForce GTX 1650 graphics with a 12nm TU117 Turing generation chip delivered much higher performance, but still fits a similar power consumption of less than 75 watts. This is the limit to which graphics require no additional power and PCI Express alone. In this case, however, the main thing is that the relatively economical GPU can be realistically cooled passively with moderate draft (possibly even when open assembly components). Thus, the Turing GPU allowed to move the performance available in this special market segment a little higher.
For lovers of silence, this card will be an interesting choice, although it must be said that we are not sure whether it may be a little whistle coils. This is not uncommon in graphics, so totally noiselessness is not guaranteed. However, the operation will be silent against anything with fans.
Also, be aware that such a card has specific requirements for housing design. 75W is a lot of heat and therefore you can not expect that the liabilities can manage to keep the temperature low even in a closed cabinet without drafts. Although it is passive cooling, it will only work if the passive is in draft, for example thanks to the fans in the cabinet and the heated air leaves. However, in a very perforated or fully open cabinet, a natural airflow might sometimes be sufficient.
Palit has not revealed an MSRP for the GeForce GTX 1650 KalmX. NVIDIA’s regular MSRP for the GTX 1650 ($149), though I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Palit charge a premium for a unique, passively-cooled card.
