Red Barrels Announces The Outlast Trials 4 Player Co-Op
The Outlast series goes into multiplayer mode. The next title in the Spooky game franchise, The Outlast Trials, will explore Outlast’s survival horror universe with friends and include cooperative play for up to four players. The Outlast Trials. Set in the era of the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with fellow test subjects.
Red Barrels announced the new game on Wednesday via press release and some posts on social media that showed off The Outlast Trials. We see several “test subjects” as Red Barrels calls them shown in the teaser image that looks just as distressing as the previews of past Outlast games. Three subjects are on the ground in various states of panic as they reach towards someone above. The visible characters have what appear to be night vision goggled affixed to their heads, a signature part of the Outlast games.
Developer Red Barrels says The Outlast Trials can also be played solo for players who prefer a more traditional first-person horror experience.
The Outlast Trials are not a direct continuation of Outlast and Outlast 2, says Red Barrels. In other words, it’s not Outlast 3, a sequel that the developer has announced. The Outlast Trials are part of the same fiction but are currently in the middle of the Cold War era. Players will apparently take on the role of test subjects participating in an unknown experiment.
David Chateauneuf, co-founder of Red Barrels said:
“Our team is working hard to create a new experience that scares and restlessens millions of players, whether they are experimenting alone or with friends,”
The Outlast Trials are in an “early stage of production” according to official announcement, more details will be promised soon. Red Barrels did not reveal any platforms or a release date.
The world of Outlast is a true survival horror experience which aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind… and Red Barrels! Whilst not a direct sequel to the other critically acclaimed Outlast titles in the series, The Outlast Trials will be set in the same thrilling universe: more precisely, right in the middle of the Cold War era. The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors of the trials by themselves or cooperate with up to three other test subjects. After all, it’s always better to shit your pants with some friends!
The original Outlast was released in 2013 on a Windows PC. The first-person psychological horror game hit the market the following year, as did the whistleblower add-on. In 2017, Red Barrels released a sequel, Outlast 2, with a different take on and main character.
The Outlast Trials is still in the early stages of production as we said previously and more news will be announced soon. Red Barrels has been working on developing the title for months and is now ramping up the production process.
