Resident Evil 8 Leak Teases Werewolves, Chris Redfield And More

It has been three years since Resident Evil 7 came out and since then, Capcom has been keeping fans happy with remakes of classic games from the series. As we head towards the next generation of consoles though, expectations for Resident Evil 8 are rising and we may now have the first leaked details. The first details for the next game in the Resident Evil series have apparently been leaked, with a classic character from the series set to make an appearance.

The rumors stem from the Youtube channel (above) Residence of Evil, a network dedicated to the franchise, who claims to have received information internally from Capcom about the game relating to playtesting from August last year.

The leaks claim that the sequel will be continuing the story told from Resident Evil VII. It will include Isaac as a playable character from the game (though it did not explicitly say if he would be the only playable character), the first person view will be returning. There’s also going to be a return for zombies, something that was a hallmark of the series until their exclusion from VII.

This isn’t much of a surprise since Ethan was the protagonist of Resident Evil 7 even though his character wasn’t as fleshed out as some of the mainstays like Leon Kennedy. Fans can hope that his character is expanded upon in this next installment.

The new Resident Evil 8 leak also claims that the game was being tested last year. Earlier there were rumors which suggested that the Resident Evil Ambassador Program members, had tested an unknown game and that it was either Resident Evil 8 or Dino Crisis. These leaks point towards the idea that it was, in fact, Resident Evil 8 indeed.

While leaks like this can usually be taken with a pinch of salt, it was also shared by Nibel on Twitter, who is known for reliable leaks. Nibel says that the information is similar to that which he has received.

With the game supposedly being playtested last year, it could be a matter of time before the game is announced. Resident Evil VII was released in early 2017, so three years of potential development time would likely be enough to make a potentially playable title.

Then, on Biohazard Declassified’s tipline email, they received an email with more info on the supposed RE8 development. According to the sender (and again, these are still unconfirmed), the game will feature the following:

  • Ethan will be returning as a playable character.
  • Resident Evil 8 was tested last year.
  • It will not be called Resident Evil 8, but will have a “clever title”
  • The game will be in First-person like RE7.
  • Gameplay starts in a village leading up to a castle.
  • The environment will be rural, snowy, and mountainous; possibly Europe.
  • Regular zombies will be appearing instead of the Molded from RE7.
  • There is a persistent shadowy “female” enemy that will follow you but will dissipate if shot.
  • There are also wolf-like creatures that will attack the player in certain areas.
  • Chris Redfield will also be returning in some capacity.

These are definitely some juicy tidbits, but until we hear from Capcom (whenever that might be), we’ll just have to look forward to Capcom’s next installment in the franchise with the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, which lands on April 3rd for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game’s title will have a phrase at the end instead of a number. Most of the Resident Evil games have had a numbered title so this leaves us to speculate if the title will suggest additional details about the game. The game will have a first-person perspective unlike the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remake which makes sense considering that the last installment also had a first-person perspective.

According to the leaks, the game will have multiple environments ranging from a village, a castle and terrain will vary from rural to snowy and mountainous. The seems reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 which had similar locations, unlike the Urban setting that we saw in recent Resident Evil games.

With the return of regular zombies, the game will also see the addition of “wolf-like creatures” which will accompany the zombies as enemies. The player will be followed by a “persistent shadowy enemy” as suggested by the leaks. The Resident Evil franchise is not known for such horror elements but perhaps this “shadowy enemy” will be introduced in some sort of hallucination.

Finally, Chris Redfield is set to be a part of the game in some form though we don’t know if he will be a playable character or not. The ending of Resident Evil 7 left fans wondering why Chris Redfield was working for Blue Umbrella? The Resident Evil 2 remake show Leon Kennedy as a playable character so perhaps Ethan and Chris Redfield will have two separate playthroughs.

Ever since the ending of Resident Evil 7 and its DLCs that tied the game into the Umbrella-related deep lore of the series, fans have been wondering what’s next. Will a potential Resident Evil 8 be a direct sequel to 7 or will it take players to a whole new location with a new cast of characters? Will the game focus on Chris Redfield as potentially suggested by the end of the last game?
