Resident Evil VIII Village Officially Revealed For PlayStation 5
The game is set to take place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and features the return of protagonist Ethan Winters for another dose of horror. Chris Redfield – a recurring character within the franchise will also return. His arrival will kick-start a chain of events and bring Ethan to a snow-covered village. It will continue the first-person perspective seen in RE7, and looks to be even more terrifying than the last outing at the Baker Mansion. From the trailer (below), RE8 looks like it will be set in a snowy, European location – as the rumours had previously indicated.
There’s lots to unpack here, especially the beefed up Chris Redfield who is now apparently Agent 47, but not much has been revealed in terms of mechanics. An official press release mentions that the actual village in RE8 is a character in it’s own right “with mysteries for Ethan to uncover and terrors to escape from.”
Village appears to take place in a creepy village and looks to have a first-person perspective, like 2017’s Resident Evil 7. RE7’s Ethan Winters will again be the protagonist, and series icon Chris Redfield was also featured in the trailer. Redfield’s appearance in Winters’ life sets off “a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village,” Capcom’s Kellen Haney said in a blog post. Haney also said that Village has “a greater focus on combat and exploration compared to Resident Evil 7.”
It’s possible that RE8 is getting a bit more freedom in exploration, but we don’t know for sure. What we do know is that it will be using the RE Engine again, though this time a little bit improved thanks to the next-gen tech of the PlayStation 5
Resident Evil VIII: Village is planned for release in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X
