Ubisoft Is Massively Expanding The Division Dev Team
It’s all been quiet on The Division front for a while now, but a spate of Ubisoft job posts indicates some major updates could be inbound. A grand total of 47 job openings are being advertised for positions at Massive Entertainment in Sweden, suggesting this isn’t the last we’ve heard of Ubisoft’s co-op loot shooter.
Tom Clancy’s The Division enjoyed a record-breaking launch for Ubisoft and was subsequently updated with a combination of free and paid post-release content. A total of three paid expansions arrived, none of which were story-based. While we haven’t got the exact figures, it’s safe to say that interest in The Division has probably dropped off in a big way in the two years since launch, although the addition of the Last Stand and Survival expansions certainly would’ve provided a healthy bump.
Its slowly ailing fortunes make it all the more curious that Ubisoft Massive is hiring so many people en masse. Positions being filled include narrative designers, level designers, artists, audio programmers, tech experts and more. Either we’re getting something massive in the way of an expansion for The Division, or Ubisoft is actually hiring up for a potential sequel.
All of the job listings seem to point towards expanding what’s already there in The Division, but it’s a tough ask to hook players in once again after all this time. The Division 2 would certainly make a bigger splash, so we’d be intrigued to see just what expansion Ubisoft Massive could be cooking up that would have anywhere near the same level of impact.
We’ll be sure to keep you up to date if we hear anything more on The Division but for now, Division fans can rest assured that Ubisoft is at least preparing something.
