Ubisoft Officially Unveils Viking Themed Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, bringing the long-running series into the medieval era with a Viking protagonist. Right now, little is known about the game, aside from the game’s Viking setting and the game’s (assumed) inclusion of naval combat. At 8 AM PDT on April 30th, Ubisoft plans to stream its “World Premiere” for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This stream will start at 4 PM UK time and will hopefully showcase gameplay for the game. At this time it is unknown which platforms Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will release on, though we suspect that the game will launch on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Over the course of about eight hours, BossLogic’s artwork revealed Viking warriors battling in a sun-drenched field on one side, and boats navigating icy waters on the other. A silhouette of a Viking warrior bisects the two scenes. Beyond that, little is known about the new Assassin’s Creed. The game is slated to come out sometime in 2020 on unspecified platforms. On one side of the Viking, the illustration shows boats sailing on stormy waters, set against icy mountains, under the glowing Northern Lights. On the other, Vikings are seen doing battle on land, with a ruined castle in the background.

Ubisoft’s teaser confirmed long-standing rumours, and an in-game tease hidden in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, which telegraphed the Viking theme for the new Assassin’s Creed game.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be the first new game in the series since 2018’s Odyssey. Instead of returning to the franchise’s typical annual release schedule, Ubisoft instead used 2019 to further flesh out Odyssey with two massive DLC expansions, Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis. Both DLCs were split into three episodes each and together all six chapters almost doubled the length of Odyssey’s story.
