Warframe Fortuna Expansion Arrives In November For PC

Warframe gets an even bigger new open world locale on Venus, and developer Digital Extremes has finally confirmed when you’ll be able to get into the new Fortuna expansion. The free update launches in November, and as usual will debut first on PC via Steam. The devs say the new map will be at least four times bigger than the Plains of Eidolon, and that’s not the only big addition. Digital Extremes had predicted that it would be out in late summer or early fall, but it’s going to be a bit longer.

The open-world Fortuna will be 4-5 times larger than last year’s Plains of Eidolon update, and will add “a different Orokin-infused look, feel, and experience to Warframe’s growing universe.” Players will take on bounties and missions in the underground internment camp of Fortuna, and “get wicked” across the exotic landscape of Venus on the new K-Drive-powered hoverboard.

November isn’t exactly a to-the-day release date, but Digital Extremes has a habit of not announcing them until they’re right on top of us anyway, so we’re going with this for now. And it sounds like this will be an expansion worth keeping an eye on: Steven said in his early preview that Fortuna “looks like Warframe’s most ambitious expansion yet.”

Warframe is also coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 20th and the developers recently showcased a bit of gameplay in a developer live stream. The game will run at 30 frames per second and is being developed by Panic Button, the Texas-based studio that handled the excellent Doom and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Nintendo Switch ports. Interestingly, the folks at Digital Extremes confirmed that the optimizations made by Panic Button will make it into the PC build of the game, presumably helping lower end machines achieve better frame rates.

A while ago Digital Extremes also expressed interest in exploring cross-play possibilities. That was before Sony launched the cross-play beta program for Fortnite a few weeks ago, so perhaps Warframe will also join in the cross-play party at some point in the future. Here’s hoping, at least.
